In my first blog i am just outlining the aims of the module just for anyone unsure what this blog is documenting.

Aims of the module

“Building on creative and technical skills gained at levels 4 and 5, this module offers students the opportunity to conceive, create and fully realise a substantial work within the context of new media. This potentially includes interactive media, which may be desktop, networked or mobile in form. Works produced individually will be self-directed and will aim to demonstrate creative and innovative thinking, use and deployment of new media.

Throughout students will be encouraged to apply new methodologies, approaches, techniques and technologies to their work”.

Synopsis of module content

“During the first term students will conceive of a self-directed work to be undertaking individually  for the duration of the module within the context of new media. Works will be negotiated between the supervising tutor and students in tutorials before students can progress to submit a proposal and give a presentation defining the work’s background, purpose, justification, target audience, process, management and expected outcome. Content will be structured to assist students in the conception and initial planning of the various stages of their work. By the end of the term it is anticipated that students will have commenced work in preparation for term two.

In term two students will continue progress towards the creation of a fully completed work. Students will be expected to direct the work towards an appropriate outcomes based on their research, target audience and the framework of the new media. These may include:

  • The creation of the exploratory art work which may be directed towards an exhibition, festival etc. or the production of a work for a production of a work for a product, company etc. directed at a specific clients needs.

Taught content will make way for regular group tutorials where students will critique their own work as well as others and individual tutorials where students will be supported as required.

The module will conclude with submission and exhibition of the work, submission of the portfolio of supporting work and written evaluation”.
